Overview

Presbyopia is a natural age-related process in which the eye lens loses its elasticity, making it difficult to focus on nearby objects after the age of 40. The condition manifests as fatigue and blurred vision when reading, and it is effectively corrected with multifocal glasses, contact lenses, or surgical replacement of the lens with an artificial one.

Symptoms

  • difficulty reading
  • eye fatigue
  • need for reading glasses

What is it?

Presbyopia is a natural process that begins around the age of 40. Over time, the eye loses its ability to focus well on nearby objects – for example, when reading, working on a computer, or writing messages.
This is caused by reduced elasticity of the lens and weaker action of the eye muscles that change its shape.

What are the symptoms?

  • Difficulty reading small text
  • Eye strain and fatigue when working up close
  • Tearing, often accompanied by headaches
  • More pronounced difficulties in low light conditions

How is it corrected?

There are several options:

  • Reading glasses or multifocal glasses
  • Contact lenses
  • Lens replacement surgery – during this procedure, the natural lens is replaced with an artificial one that allows clear vision at different distances.

At the Pentagram Clinic, we offer an individualized approach when selecting intraocular lenses according to the needs and health condition of the eye. Many of our patients share that removing their glasses has significantly improved their daily lives.
