However, it is important that the intensity be tailored to the type of heart condition, the degree of impairment, and your current condition. Some sports may need to be restricted, while others should be chosen carefully. A consultation with a cardiologist is recommended when experiencing symptoms such as chest pain or tightness, heart palpitations, skipped heartbeats, shortness of breath during physical activity, dizziness, or fainting. Additionally, if you have high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or a family history of cardiovascular diseases, preventive check-ups are highly recommended—especially after the age of 40.

Heart diseases are among the leading causes of mortality worldwide and often develop slowly, with unnoticeable symptoms. Recognizing them in time is crucial for prevention and treatment.

The most common symptoms of heart diseases include:

  • chest pain or tightness (angina pectoris)

  • shortness of breath, especially during physical exertion or while lying down

  • easy fatigue and lack of energy

  • dizziness or fainting

  • swelling of the legs and ankles (edema), especially at the end of the day

It is important to note that in women, elderly individuals, and people with diabetes, the signs may be atypical – such as fatigue, nausea, or discomfort in the back or neck, without chest pain.

If one or more of these symptoms are present, it is advisable to consult a cardiologist and undergo basic examinations.

Important questions about hypertension

How can we tell if we suffer from hypertension?

The most common complaints with elevated arterial pressure (AP) are: headache, "tension in the head," ringing in the ears, short-term dimming of vision, dizziness, impaired balance, chest heaviness, tightness in the neck area, etc. If you notice such symptoms, make sure to measure your blood pressure 3-4 times a week, and it is recommended to do some of these measurements when you are not experiencing symptoms. In some cases of hypertension, including high-grade hypertension, there are no complaints. Patients feel well, are in good condition, and are unaware of the problem. In these cases, hypertension is detected accidentally – during a preventive check-up, a random AP measurement, and not infrequently, due to a complication. The only way to detect the presence of hypertension is to measure arterial pressure. This is especially important for men over the age of 40, women in menopause, children of hypertensive parents (especially if they are burdened on both the paternal and maternal sides), individuals with diabetes, obesity, kidney, endocrine, and systemic diseases (amyloidosis, lupus, etc.). Sometimes, it may be necessary to conduct 24-hour AP monitoring (Holter).
