C-reactive protein (CRP)
The test is performed early in the morning on an empty stomach.C-reactive protein (CRP) is a cyclic, acute-phase protein synthesized by the liver in the presence of inflammation. It is one of the strongest acute-phase reactants. Its concentration can increase up to 1000 times following acute myocardial infarction, infections, stress, trauma, inflammation, or surgery. CRP is an early marker of inflammatory response.
The production of C-reactive protein by the liver and its release into the bloodstream increases within 4 to 6 hours after the onset of the inflammatory process and reaches its highest concentration within 36 to 50 hours.
