ENT conditions in adults

Among the most common conditions in adult patients are sinusitis, rhinitis (including allergic rhinitis), pharyngitis, and laryngitis. Chronic nasal obstruction, throat pain and irritation, hoarseness, and voice disorders are also frequently encountered.

Ear conditions, such as acute and chronic otitis, which can lead to hearing impairments, are not uncommon. Additional complaints may include tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and dizziness associated with vestibular system disorders.

ENT conditions in children

In childhood, ENT conditions are extremely common due to the immature immune system. The most frequent conditions include acute and chronic otitis, enlarged adenoids, tonsillitis, and upper respiratory infections.

These conditions can affect a child’s breathing, sleep, speech, and concentration. Timely consultation with a specialist is crucial for proper development and preventing complications.

Questions

Allergic rhinitis often causes mucosal swelling, which blocks the natural drainage of the sinuses and the Eustachian tube. This creates an environment for bacterial infections and a feeling of "clogged" ears. An ENT specialist can differentiate between a common cold and an allergic reaction.

The most common cause in children is an enlarged adenoid (the "third tonsil"). This can lead to poor sleep quality, frequent ear infections (otitis), and even changes in dental alignment. A timely exam is key to determining whether conservative or surgical treatment is necessary.

As specialists, we advise against inserting swabs deep into the ear canal. They often push earwax further in, leading to "wax plugs" or even eardrum perforation. The correct way is to clean only the outer part of the external ear.

If the pain is accompanied by difficulty swallowing, a fever lasting over 3 days, or white spots on the tonsils, a consultation is mandatory. Chronic pain or a persistent "lump" sensation in the throat are also signals that should not be ignored.
