A comprehensive eye exam includes an assessment of vision and eye structures to diagnose potential eye diseases. This is a fundamental part of eye health care and is recommended for people of all ages. The examination is performed by an ophthalmologist and typically includes:

  • measuring visual acuity and determining refraction

  • measuring intraocular pressure (tonometry) โ€” an important indicator of glaucoma risk

  • examining the anterior segment of the eye, cornea, and lens

  • examining the fundus and retina (with a dilated pupil)

  • prescribing optical correction if needed

Regular preventive eye exams can detect serious conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and others at an early stage, when treatment is more effective. Specialists recommend an annual eye check-up for adults and at least twice during childhood development โ€“ before starting school and in the early school years.

At our hospital, we have the full range of equipment to help us with diagnosis. Vision is everything. Take care of it in time โ€“ a preventive exam can prevent its loss.

At SOBAL "Pentagram", we focus on precise preparation to achieve excellent results with every laser intervention. Before the actual operation, you should consult with our ophthalmologist.
  • A detailed examination is conducted to assess whether you are a suitable candidate for laser correction.
  • Expectations, risks, and possible outcomes are discussed.
  • Specialized tests are assigned, along with a comprehensive eye examination, such as keratotopography and Wavefront analysis โ€“ maps of corneal curvatures and spherical aberrations, pachymetry โ€“ determining the thickness of the cornea.
  • Additional tests may also be conducted if necessary.
Before the procedure, you should avoid contact lenses โ€“ at least 5โ€“7 days before the operation (or depending on the type of lenses) and before the preparation examination. No makeup, creams, or perfumes on the day of the operation. A companion is not mandatory but is recommended. Our team will provide you with a detailed list of personalized instructions and will be with you every step of the way from preparation to full recovery.

In today's digital world, taking care of your eyes is more important than ever. Prolonged use of a computer, phone, or tablet can lead to fatigue, dryness, blurred vision, and even headaches. Fortunately, with a few simple habits, you can effectively take care of your vision in daily life.

1. Wear proper optical correction (if prescribed). Incorrectly chosen glasses or lenses can strain your vision. Regularly visit an eye specialist for check-ups and updates to your prescription.

2. Ensure proper lighting. Work in a well-lit area, avoiding direct light into your eyes or strong contrast between the screen and the environment. Use screen filters or 'warm light' settings, especially in the evening.

3. Follow the 20/20/20 rule. One of the simplest and most effective rules for visual hygiene: Every 20 minutes, look at an object 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This gives your eye muscles a break and reduces strain from screen use.

4. Blink often. When staring at a screen, we blink less often, which leads to eye dryness. Remind yourself to blink regularly, especially if you feel dryness or burning, and use artificial tears.

5. Wear sunglasses UV rays can harm your eyes even on cloudy days. Wear glasses with UV protection when outdoors. Eye care doesn't take much time but provides long-term benefits. Incorporate these tips into your daily routine and ensure long-term protection and comfort for your vision.

For children, the first examination is recommended around the age of three, followed by subsequent exams as needed or upon the recommendation of a specialist. Adults up to the age of 40 can have preventive check-ups every two years if they have no complaints. After the age of 40, an annual check-up is recommended, especially in cases of a family history of glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Prolonged screen time does not cause permanent vision damage, but it can lead to what is known as 'Computer Vision Syndrome'โ€”eye strain and fatigue, neck and head pain, and dryness in the eyes. To alleviate symptoms, it is recommended to use proper optical correction with a filter that blocks blue light from screens, apply the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes take a 20-second break and look at a distance of 20 steps), and regularly use artificial tears to prevent eye dryness.

Every woman is born with a certain number of eggs, which decrease with age. Ovarian reserve testing helps assess reproductive potential. The main indicators are:
  • AMH (Anti-Mรผllerian Hormone): A blood test that can be done on any day of the cycle. Low levels suggest that the number of eggs is decreasing.
  • Antral follicles: Counted via ultrasound at the beginning of the menstrual cycle. This is important for women who are postponing motherhood, to know whether they have time or need to take measures (e.g., egg freezing).

Fetal morphology is a highly specialized examination performed with a high-class ultrasound machine, which we have at the "Pentagram" Medical Center. It is done around the 18thโ€“20th gestational week and takes a minimum of 30 minutes. The organs of the fetus, measurements, skeleton, facial area, limbs, the integrity and number of vertebrae, the integrity of the abdominal area, diaphragm, and others are thoroughly examined. Major blood vessels are visualized, and blood flow in them is measured using Doppler. An evaluation of the maturity and location of the placenta is made, along with the insertion site of the umbilical cord, the number of vessels composing it, and the amount of amniotic fluid. If any abnormalities are found, they are described in detail in the documentation provided to the pregnant woman.

Many pregnant women get confused between these two tests:
  • BHS (early, at 11-13 weeks): This is a statistical method. Two hormones in the mother's blood are measured and combined with ultrasound data from the fetal morphology (nuchal translucency). The result is a probability (e.g., 1:5000). It does not provide a definitive diagnosis.
  • DNA test (NIPT): This is a high-tech test where the baby's DNA is isolated from the mother's blood. Its accuracy for Down syndrome is over 99%, and it can determine the baby's sex as early as the 10th week. It is more expensive but much more reliable than BHS.

Ischemic stroke is caused by a blockage of a blood vessel in the brain, leading to a lack of oxygen and damage to brain tissue. Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel ruptures and causes bleeding in the brain. The diagnosis is made using a computed tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which allow differentiation of the type of stroke and the timely initiation of treatment.

The most common causes of headaches are tension headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches. Imaging is recommended for sudden, severe, or atypical headaches, in the presence of neurological symptoms such as weakness, speech or vision impairment, as well as in patients over 50 years old with newly onset or altered-character pain.

The diagnosis of epilepsy is made when there are at least two unprovoked seizures and is confirmed with an electroencephalogram, which shows epileptic activity. Imaging studies are used to detect structural changes in the brain. Treatment includes antiepileptic medications, and if there is no effect, surgical intervention or neurostimulation is considered.

Before laser correction, anesthetic drops are applied so that the eye becomes slightly "numb." You may feel pressure when the corneal flap is created. The sensation of pain is extremely rare. Discomfort can occur a few hours after the procedure - more rest and sleep are necessary.

At SOBAL "Pentagram", we focus on precise preparation to achieve excellent results with every laser intervention. Before the actual operation, you should consult with our ophthalmologist.
  • A detailed examination is conducted to assess whether you are a suitable candidate for laser correction.

As with any medical procedure, there is no absolute guarantee. Statistics in our country and worldwide show that over 96% of patients do not need glasses for driving after laser correction. However, the final results strongly depend on your diopters, individual recovery characteristics after the procedure, and many other factors. Vision of 100% (visual acuity of one or 20/20) can only be achieved if your eyes have the potential for such vision, i.e., you have high vision with glasses or contact lenses before the procedure. If a "lazy" eye shows vision around 50% with glasses, then after the LASIK procedure, the vision will also be around 50%, but without diopter correction with glasses. The laser procedure should be seen as a way to reduce and eliminate the burden and constant dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

Typically, the LASIK procedure is performed simultaneously - on the same day. This is preferred by most patients due to its safe nature and predictable results. The convenience lies in the rapid recovery of binocular vision, especially if you cannot tolerate a contact lens in the untreated eye. With LASEK, operating the eyes sequentially in different weeks can be considered, as you will need several days for sufficient vision recovery. Thus, if only one eye is treated and while it is recovering, you can use the other eye in the meantime. For patients with very high myopia, this approach is even preferred by doctors to observe the eye's reaction. During your eye examination, you will discuss the relative advantages and disadvantages of both approaches and choose one of them based on medical advice and your preference.

It is recommended to be done at least once a year as part of a routine preventive check-up. They are especially important in the presence of symptoms such as persistent fatigue, unclear pain, weight loss, frequent infections, or changes in appetite. Laboratory tests are also ordered for chronic diseases, before surgical interventions, for monitoring medication treatment, or hormonal disorders.

The clinical laboratory of the medical facility "Pentagram" is the heart of precise diagnostics โ€“ the place where every value matters for your health. With a simple blood sample, it is possible to conduct
  • Hematological diagnostics
  • Coagulation diagnostics
  • Biochemical diagnostics
  • Monitoring the electrolyte balance in the body
  • Immunohematology
  • Hormonal diagnostics
  • Tumor markers
  • Infectious serology, virology, parasitology, microbiology

One of the main requirements for laboratory tests is that blood must be taken on an empty stomach. Only water intake is allowed. For some tests (e.g., blood sugar, lipid profile, hormones), it is important to avoid heavy physical exertion and stress from the previous day. If you are taking medication, inform the laboratory technician and your treating physician, as some medications may affect the results. For urine or other sample tests, specific instructions are usually provided and must be followed precisely.

The main socially significant eye diseases in older adults include cataracts - the leading cause of reversible blindness worldwide, which is a natural part of aging. "The silent thief of sight" - glaucoma, is a neurodegenerative disease that causes permanent vision loss and is a cause of irreversible blindness. Age-related macular degeneration is becoming increasingly prevalent in socially affluent countries and is an issue related to aging. Diabetes mellitus often leads to eye involvement with early onset of cataracts and diabetic retinopathy, which requires frequent visits to an eye doctor. As for diopters โ€“ they also change with age. Hyperopia (farsightedness) increases, myopia (nearsightedness) as well, and around the age of 40, the manifestation of presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) begins.

An endocrinological examination is recommended in cases of suspected hormonal imbalance. Typical symptoms include unexplained fatigue, weight gain or loss, hair loss, mood changes, dry skin, cold extremities, excessive thirst, frequent urination, or menstrual irregularities. A consultation with an endocrinologist is also mandatory for the diagnosis of diabetes, thyroid diseases, osteoporosis, or heart and metabolic issues related to hormonal disorders.

Thyroid problems can affect various functions of the body and often go unnoticed in the early stages. The most common symptoms of impaired thyroid function include:

  • unexplained weight gain or loss

  • constant fatigue and drowsiness

  • irritability or mood changes

  • dry skin and hair loss

  • changes in heart rate (rapid or slowed pulse)

  • menstrual cycle disorders

These symptoms may be associated with either hypothyroidism (reduced activity) or hyperthyroidism (increased activity) of the thyroid gland. If you experience such complaints, it is advisable to consult an endocrinologist.

Yes, these are common symptoms of thyroid dysfunction, but they can also be due to other reasons. In PentaGram Medical Center you will receive an examination and the necessary tests for an accurate diagnosis.

A consultation with a cardiologist is recommended when experiencing symptoms such as chest pain or tightness, heart palpitations, skipped heartbeats, shortness of breath during physical activity, dizziness, or fainting. Additionally, if you have high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or a family history of cardiovascular diseases, preventive check-ups are highly recommendedโ€”especially after the age of 40.

Heart diseases are among the leading causes of mortality worldwide and often develop slowly, with unnoticeable symptoms. Recognizing them in time is crucial for prevention and treatment.

The most common symptoms of heart diseases include:

  • chest pain or tightness (angina pectoris)

  • shortness of breath, especially during physical exertion or while lying down

  • a sensation of skipped or rapid heartbeat (palpitations)

  • easy fatigue and lack of energy

  • dizziness or fainting

  • swelling of the legs and ankles (edema), especially at the end of the day

It is important to note that in women, elderly individuals, and people with diabetes, the signs may be atypical โ€“ such as fatigue, nausea, or discomfort in the back or neck, without chest pain.

If one or more of these symptoms are present, it is advisable to consult a cardiologist and undergo basic examinations.

Early detection of heart problems significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and a fulfilling life. Do not delay checking your heart health.

In many cases, physical activity is not only possible but also recommended because it improves circulation, weight control, and overall endurance. However, it is important that the intensity be tailored to the type of heart condition, the degree of impairment, and your current condition. Some sports may need to be restricted, while others should be chosen carefully. In Medical Center "Pentagram" the cardiologist will conduct the necessary tests and develop an individualized exercise program so that you can exercise safely and benefit your health.
